For hosts
Guest registration in Sweden
When you are a host - or accommodation provider – in Sweden, accommodation providers are required to collect and maintain specific information about their guests, particularly foreign nationals, to comply with national regulations. This practice ensures both safety and adherence to legal obligations.
Guest registration requirements in Sweden
In Sweden, the Swedish Police Authority's regulations (PMFS 2015:6 FAP 279-1) and Chapter 6, Section 13 of the Aliens Ordinance (2006:97) requires accommodation providers to collect and maintain specific information from foreign guests.
According to the Swedish Aliens Ordinance, accommodation providers must ensure that foreign guests complete and sign a registration form upon arrival. This form should include:
- Guest's last name and first name
- Date of birth
- Nationality
- Home address
- Arrival and departure dates
- Type and number of the identity document presented
- Guest’s signature and the date of signing
Guests are required to verify their identity using a valid identification document, such as a passport or national ID card. These regulations are based on the Schengen Agreement within the EU.

Guest registration of children in Sweden
In the case of spouses and accompanying children under 18 years of age, only one spouse needs to complete and sign the registration form.
However, a minor under 18 years of age who checks into a hotel, guesthouse, or other professional overnight rental accommodation alone must be registered.
Guest registration for travelling in a group
For (organised) group travel, only the person responsible for the group needs to be registered.
Storing of guest registration in Sweden
The accommodation provider is obliged to store the registration forms for three months from the date of the guest’s registration.
Constant monitoring of developments in Sweden
Although there is no form of tourist tax in Sweden, we are closely monitoring all developments that can lead to a new tax to be introduced. Other countries in Europe, like The Netherlands, Switzerland, and Italy do levy tourist tax. Will Sweden follow soon?
