How Trippz for Hosts uses AI: GDPR, EU data storage, and a self-hosted model
Trippz for Hosts is a tourist tax and guest registration compliance platform for accommodation providers, used in over 40 countries. The platform processes personal data every day: guest names, document numbers, arrival dates, tourist tax payments.
Before trusting any platform with that data, there is one question worth asking. Where does it go, and who can see it?
This post answers that question, including how AI fits into the picture.
Is Trippz GDPR compliant?
Yes. All personal data processed by Trippz is stored on servers within the European Union and handled under the GDPR. Guest data, booking records, and tourist tax information never leave the EU. Trippz is also SOC 1 Type 2 and SOC 2 Type 2 certified, which means an independent auditor has verified our security controls. The full details on data handling are in the Trippz privacy policy.
Does Trippz send my data to OpenAI, ChatGPT, or other AI companies?
No. Host and guest data processed by Trippz for Hosts is never sent to OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or any other external AI provider.
The Trippz for Hosts app includes an AI assistant. You can use it to find bookings, check payout details, or ask questions about rules and settings. That assistant runs on a server Trippz operates itself, located in Finland, inside the EU. When you ask it a question, your data is processed entirely within Trippz infrastructure. No third party receives it, logs it, or trains on it.
Can the AI assistant see my guest data?
The assistant has access to the same information you see when you log in to your own account, and only that. It can look up your bookings, your payouts, and your settings, because that is what makes it useful. Data from your account is never shared with another host's account, and the assistant cannot access anything beyond what belongs to you.
Why does Trippz run its own AI instead of using ChatGPT or Claude?
Control over the data. Most platforms add AI features by routing questions through an external API, which means user data passes through a third party in another jurisdiction, often outside the EU. For a platform handling guest registration data and tourist tax records, we considered that an unacceptable trade.
Instead, Trippz runs an open-weights AI model (Qwen3) on a dedicated NVIDIA H200 GPU within its own EU infrastructure. Open-weights models are published openly and can be run privately on your own hardware. The result: every AI request is processed inside our own environment, with no usage data sent to a model provider and no dependency on an external service that could change its terms or discontinue the model.
Does Trippz use AI anywhere else?
Yes, and we built the infrastructure so it could carry more than the host app. Our development team uses AI for writing and reviewing code, connected to the same self-hosted server in Finland. We are rolling out internal AI tools for other departments on that same infrastructure, so that everyday AI use across the company runs on hardware we control rather than on external services. None of this work involves host or guest data. The AI that touches your data is the assistant inside the Trippz for Hosts app, and it stays on our own server.
The short version
Trippz stores all data on EU servers under the GDPR. The AI assistant in the Trippz for Hosts app runs on a self-hosted server in Finland. Host and guest data is never sent to OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or any other external AI provider. Each host's data is isolated to their own account.
