How VillaSud fixed tourist tax compliance in France

In our last article, we explained how booking platforms in France risk fines of up to €2,500 per booking if they miss tourist tax filings and payments. That risk is real for smaller platforms, that don’t have a full compliance team to handle the administrative tasks.

VillaSud is one of those smaller platforms. They rent out more than 200 holiday villas in southern France. Their team used to spend many hours each month calculating tourist tax, preparing declarations, and sending payments to municipalities. Every year brought new rate changes and new checks to perform manually. The risk of mistakes was always there.

Since the summer of 2025, VillaSud runs this process with Trippz. Filings are on time, and payments match municipal expectations. And most important: the team has time back to serve guests and owners, instead of spending time on administrative work.

Why being compliant without help is difficult

Tourist tax in France is not one rule. France has thousands of municipalities. Each can set its own rate and method within national limits. Declarations are due on a fixed cadence, and they must reflect the right exemptions, such as age or classification. A smaller platform that manages this by hand faces two problems. First, keeping rules current. Second, producing clean declarations and remittances for every municipality where bookings took place.

How Trippz helps VillaSud

We set up a simple flow with VillaSud that removes manual work and reduces risk.

Tourist tax transparency on the booking website

For each holiday home on the VillaSud website, Trippz provides the correct tourist tax rules and up-to-date tourist tax rates. This way, the displayed tax rates always are always correct.

Semi-annual tourist tax declarations on time
  • Every 6 months, VillaSud provides all booking data to Trippz to calculate tourist tax obligations for each booking, identify discrepancies and enable declaration.
  • Trippz automatically takes care of the declaration and submits it to DGFiP (Faritas), twice a year.
Remittance of the tourist tax to the right municipality

Trippz facilitates the payment of the total tourist tax obligation per municipality, corresponding with the tourist tax declaration.

In the words of VillaSud’s owner:

Throughout the year, the VillaSud team used to spend a lot of time calculating tourist tax amounts, preparing declarations and doing the remittance. Trippz provides us now with tourist tax data and takes care of the declarations, saving us a lot of time – Jannine Hazenberg, owner of VillaSud

A solution for big and small platforms

Trippz supports global platforms like Airbnb, Booking.com, and Expedia. However, VillaSud and Trippz show that smaller teams can run a clean process without building a department. The rules are the same, the filings are similar. The difference is the weight on your staff. With Trippz, this burden is lower. And because our pricing scales with usage, smaller platforms don’t pay the same as global OTAs. Costs grow with bookings, so it stays fair for a team of 200 homes as well as for a platform handling millions of stays.

What you can expect when working with Trippz

We aim to change your manual effort into a smooth process. This means less paperwork, and less stress:

  • Less time spent on updating rates and exemptions
  • Better declarations that match municipal formats and timelines
  • Payments that match filings and booking data
  • We handle incoming questions from authorities

Getting started is simple. VillaSud began by sending us a straightforward export of their booking data. For most smaller platforms, that’s enough to run the first filing cycle. If preferred, we can also connect through an API to automate the feed.

Make compliance easy

Tourist tax in France is a legal duty. The work is detailed and the risk is high if you rely on manual steps. VillaSud decided to remove that risk. With Trippz, their filings and remittances are correct and on time, and the team can focus on core work again.

If your platform operates in France, we are ready to help you set it up. Talk to us to have a look at your situation, and discuss how we can help you.
