Tourist tax rate Isle of Anglesey (Ynys Môn)

Anglesey is an island off the north-west coast of Wales, reached across the Menai Strait. Almost its entire coastline is a National Landscape, circled by the Anglesey Coastal Path. The draw is beaches: Newborough, Rhosneigr, Trearddur Bay and Benllech. Beaumaris has a UNESCO-listed castle, and Holyhead is a major ferry port to Ireland.

Is Anglesey introducing a tourist tax?

Not yet, and it has not been decided. The Isle of Anglesey County Council (Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn) agreed at Full Council on 12 May 2026 to run a public consultation on a Visitor Levy. The eight-week consultation ran from 18 May to 13 July 2026, gathering views from residents, businesses and visitors. The council will announce its decision after 24 September 2026.

If Anglesey approves the levy, it must give the Welsh Revenue Authority 12 months' notice, and a levy can only begin on 1 April or 1 October — so the earliest possible start date is 1 October 2027. The rates would be the national ones: £1.30 per person per night for hotels, cottages, statics, touring pitches and glamping, and £0.75 for tent pitches and shared dormitory rooms, where under-18s are exempt. Because the island's tourism leans heavily towards self-catering and holiday parks, almost all Anglesey accommodation would fall in the £1.30 band with no under-18 exemption. The council has said any income would go to public toilets, footpaths, beaches, visitor centres and visitor activities.

Anglesey coordinated its timetable with Gwynedd and Conwy, so all three North Wales councils decide within days of each other. Separately from the levy, registering your accommodation with the WRA becomes mandatory across Wales from October 2026.

Trippz: the authority on tourist tax

Trippz: the authority on tourist tax

How Trippz stays current

Trippz checks tax rules jurisdiction by jurisdiction against official municipal and national sources. When a rate or rule changes, the update happens automatically rather than on a periodic review cycle. This is the same monitoring that travel platforms and software vendors depend on to stay accurate everywhere they operate.
