Tourist tax rate Bodø

Bodø sits on the Nordland coast and is the transport hub for northern Norway, which makes it the arrival point for most travel onward to Lofoten. Saltstraumen and Kjerringøy draw the heaviest visitor traffic, and the municipality says both are no longer equipped for the numbers arriving.

Is Bodø introducing a tourist tax?

Yes, and it is further than most. Bodø put a draft local regulation and a spending plan out for public consultation on 3 July 2026, with a deadline of 26 August 2026. The municipality intends the regulation to take effect on 1 January 2027. If it is adopted, collection starts on 1 April 2027.

The rate is the national 3% of the accommodation price, and Bodø proposes to apply it across the whole municipality. It would run seasonally, from 1 April to 30 September each year, which the national law allows. The levy covers paid overnight stays, including short term rentals booked through platforms.

Bodø also proposes a besøksbidragsutvalg, a committee where the tourism industry holds the majority and issues an annual recommendation on how the revenue is spent. Money from the levy is restricted to measures that benefit visitors, residents and the tourism sector.

Nothing can be charged until the council adopts and publishes the regulation and the ministry approves the spending plan. This page is updated as soon as that happens.

Trippz: the authority on tourist tax

Trippz: the authority on tourist tax

How Trippz stays current

Trippz checks tax rules jurisdiction by jurisdiction against official municipal and national sources. When a rate or rule changes, the update happens automatically rather than on a periodic review cycle. This is the same monitoring that travel platforms and software vendors depend on to stay accurate everywhere they operate.

One tax engine, every market

Send a location, get the applicable rate, instantly and correctly calculated.
